The rock-hewn churches in Lalibela are all this in use to this day. As Ethiopian Orthodox Christians usually have one or more favored saints many of them will just go to the church that is dedicated to their saint. Or they’ll do it like our guide and go to the church they think is most beautiful.
NB: As we took so many pictures that day I divided them into three sets: Northern group, Saint George and Eastern group.
